Halloween is approaching by the day! To college students halloween is a very big deal! This is my third year in college and my ideas are running out! Luckily pinterest is there to turn too! Last year I was able to create a sugar skull costume that I believe was very different than most sugar skulls I saw that year. I created a girly twist on the day of the dead costume and ended up loving how it turned out. The best part was it cost me under $20!
The first step was buying a bra. I bought a cheap bra from Target and then headed over to Michaels! There I spent the sum of my money on fake flowers. I stuck to pink tones as my central go to flower. This costume could be done with so many different colors to change the look up FYI! Personally I believe getting blacks and dark grays would add to the darkness that come from The Day of the Dead. One could also pair the flowered up bra with a leather skirt, that would add such a modern twist on the costume! Leather is so in this season, so it would also be super fashion forward. In my process I then headed over to the lace area of Michael's Craft Store where I bought a roll of lace for 50 cents! I needed a skirt so I went to forever 21 and luckily I was able to find a super cute white racer skirts for $6! When I got home I laid all my materials out. I then strategized where I was going to put my flowers. After I searched skull hands and printed a picture off of the internet. Then the fun part came.. I started glueing everything and before I knew it the bra did not look just like any white bra anymore. My creation was basically a top! I loved the way it came out and what is very important is how inexpensive it was to make. Pinterest has so many great ideas and it really is so fun to DIY costumes! I was really proud of my costume that year, and I got so much more out of it then going to any Halloween store and picking up a costume. BE YOU & BE CREATIVE ! After all thats what Halloween is about! Below is a picture of my final product! The makeup was fun to do and I went a little crazy with the gems, but HEY I loved it!
THE FINAL PRODUCT. The headband made the outfit basically. I used an old headband and glued my left over flowers to it! Paired it with some cute wedges and my costume was the perfect mix of cute & spooky! - XOXO
